Islaamee Marukazu
Study of the Islamic Centre and its Grand Friday Mosque — the golden dome that marks the skyline of Malé and the 41-metre minaret beside it. Opened in 1984 and named for Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu al-Auzam, the building follows Malaysian prototypes: a three-storey prayer hall over monumental entrance stairs, framed by lower annexes. The model keeps the chevron-banded minaret, the arched porch and the green-roofed courts that read clearly from the sea.
